## Quote

> “People **can't spend $100,000** to have a robot clean up after dinner.”
> — [Ray Kurzweil](https://realalpha.app/people/ray-kurzweil/) at [9:20](https://realalpha.app/v/XjzowGpF628/?t=560) · Moonshots

## Takeaways

1. AGI needs better physical understanding and robotics.
2. Household robots still cannot handle varied tasks affordably.
3. Kurzweil expects progress on these gaps by 2029.

## About this segment

Ray Kurzweil says AGI still needs better physical reasoning and practical robotics, especially for varied household tasks. He expects those gaps to close around 2029, but says cost remains a barrier.

[7:43](https://realalpha.app/v/XjzowGpF628/?t=463) we just saw a story where Demis Hassabis, who you know, said he doesn't, that 50-50, why do we need another breakthrough, a fundamental breakthrough in AI to get to AGI? What do you think? Well, I think we need two things for this to understand physics. Like, it doesn't really understand physics. It can infer that from the wording, but it really doesn't understand how different types of things would interact.

[8:17](https://realalpha.app/v/XjzowGpF628/?t=497) Google has announced a project to do that. that, I think, will take, I think, till 2029. And then robotics is behind large language models. I mean, large language models can basically understand everything. But like I've gotten I've got to clean up after dinner. Oh, that's my assignment from my wife. And robotics doesn't understand that. It can if I like this one, I need to put something in the refrigerator.

[9:09](https://realalpha.app/v/XjzowGpF628/?t=549) This one needs to be washed away. Like everything's a little bit different to actually understand that and actually be able to do that. We don't have robotics that can do that at any price. And it also needs to be made less less expensive. People can't spend $100,000 to have a robot clean up after dinner. So that I think that will come about 2029. It's not there today. those two things I think need some additional work but we know what needs
