How our news works
Real Alpha cuts the minutes worth hearing from long interviews with the people building AI. When one of those moments bears on the day's news, we write a short item about it, so a reader or a reporter can find what was said, hear it from the second it was said, and quote it with a link.
Who runs it
Real Alpha is run by Rushabh Sheth, who started it. Every item carries that name. Real Alpha takes no money for news items, and a sponsor never sees or changes one.
How an item is picked
Each morning we look up the people and companies in the moments we cut over the last two days in the day's headlines. A moment becomes an item only when a story that day is about what the moment is about: the same deal, product, claim or market. A story that merely names the same person isn't enough. At most five items go up a day, and most days have fewer.
How it's written and checked
- An AI model writes each item to our style guide, from the moment's transcript, the day's story by its headline and description, and what the same person said in earlier moments. It's told to use nothing else.
- Code then checks it. Every quotation must match the transcript word for word, every figure must appear in the sources, the item has to name the story it connects to, and its sentences must be short and plain. An item that fails gets one rewrite, and one that fails again doesn't go up.
- Items that pass go up without a person reading them first, so the checks above are strict. We read them after they're up, and correct or take down any that are wrong.
- Quotes come from the show's own transcript or from our machine transcription (Whisper) of its audio. Each moment's page says which, and the video is there to check against.
- We link the day's story at its outlet and the moment's page, which plays the video in the show's own player.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. The item's page gets a correction note at the bottom saying what was wrong and the date it was fixed, and its updated time changes. We don't quietly rewrite items, and an item we can't fix comes down. To report a mistake, write to hello@realalpha.app with the item's address.
