Meta's Alexandr Wang says memes helped his AI app Muse break through
Alexandr Wang, who is Meta's chief AI officer, said his meme posting on X was a deliberate way to help Muse break through. He said so on the podcast Founders, in an episode posted Sunday, Oct. 11.
For most people this is about the AI apps that keep landing on their phones. Wang described a constant stream of new launches. Companies now fight to be noticed, and that shapes which products you hear about first.
Wang told host David Senra that Meta can tell everyone about a product, but that isn't enough. He said the team wanted Muse to stand out in a way people would find interesting. He also wanted to make Meta cool again. Some of his posts were quick ones he didn't think much about, and they did well. Then he remembered something about the internet.
He said it in one line, at 29:37. "The internet rewards risk and it rewards like surprise."
Insider covered the same remarks, under the headline "Alexandr Wang wanted to make Meta 'cool again' and memes were part of his plan." It reports that his chaotic posting, though spur-of-the-moment, is not without rhyme or reason.
Wang said Meta doesn't have the tracking to prove it, and that it's hard to tell. He still thinks the posts made an impact on growth. Meta makes Muse, so he has a stake in the answer.
