Wispr Flow's Hector Serrano says a smart retainer keeps creators

Hector Serrano, Head of Content at Wispr Flow, said creators in the company's paid video program get a pay floor and no ceiling. He said so on Lenny's Podcast, in an episode posted Sunday.

This touches anyone who watches ads on Instagram or TikTok. Many of those videos are made by paid creators, and how they get paid shapes what you see. It also shows a new way to earn a living online.

Serrano called the setup a smart retainer. He gave an example. A creator makes 25 videos and earns $500 in commissions, so Wispr Flow adds $1,000 to reach $1,500. If the same creator earns $3,000 in commissions, the creator keeps that and gets no top-up. He said new creators often can't earn enough from commissions alone in the first months. He introduced the idea at 14:21.

"It's called a smart retainer."

The story behind the moment comes from netinfluencer. Its headline reads "Head of Content at $2B AI Company Wispr Flow Shares 9 Lessons From Its Paid UGC Program." The outlet reports that Serrano described how a 50-creator roster produces 500 to 600 paid user-generated videos.

Wispr Flow makes the product its creators promote, so it gains when the ads work. Serrano also said the program only works if the product is good enough for creators to like it.
