Google's Sundar Pichai says AI agents will work across Google apps

Sundar Pichai, who runs Google, said the company plans to bring personal AI agents to everyday users. He said so on the Big Technology Podcast, in an episode posted Tuesday.

This touches the apps many people open every day, like Gmail and Google Search. An agent here means AI that keeps working on a task by itself. You could ask for something once and let it get on with the job while you do other things.

Pichai said these agents run all day in the cloud and carry your context with them. You could reach one from Workspace, Search or Gemini. He said Gemini, Google's AI system like ChatGPT, will decide on its own whether to chat or carry out a task. He put it this way.

"do the right thing and it can work persistently on the background securely and get things done for you."

The story in the headlines is from Digit on MSN. It reports that Pichai says AI agents help him run Google, by tracking daily updates and monitoring company work while humans make the key decisions.

Pichai said a growing share of what people ask Gemini is already tasks rather than chats. He didn't give a date for the consumer launch and said Google wants to get it right. Google sells these products, so it has a stake in people using them.
